The 4 Biggest Mistakes I Made in My First Year of Writing on Medium

I have been writing on the platform for more than two years now. I know a lot more now.

But, the naivety of my early days — when I thought all I had to do was write a few articles, hit publish, and watch the claps and followers roll in.

Spoiler alert — It didn’t quite go down like that.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Writing on Medium has been an incredible experience, but it’s also been a steep learning curve filled with bumps, bruises, and, yes, a few facepalms. I made mistakes — big ones — that not only slowed my progress but also had me questioning whether I was cut out for this whole writing on the Internet thing.

And trust me, I’ve made enough to go around.

From not reading other people’s work to ignoring what the audience actually wants to read, my first year was a masterclass in what not to do.

Not Researching What People Want to Read
